Screw In Style Christmas Lights
On this page you will find the various sets of screw in style Christmas lights in my collection. As well as street lights I have always found Christmas lights fascinating. The description for the sets is based on my observation of the lights and not the actual names. If anyone could help me with dates and names please e-mail me at andrewpate35@hotmail.com.
PIFCO Glitter lights.
I remember as a young boy my parents had these lights on their Christmas tree. This was back in the 80s, so I assume that these lights are from the 70s as this is when my parents bought their first house. I bought these lights about two year ago from EBAY. There are 20 lights on this string. The bulbs are a small Edison screw which screw into a green plastic holder, they are 12.5 volts each (Mains Voltage = 240V, 20 lights therefore 240/20 = 12V so the bulbs have to be 12V or higher). The colours are Red, Green, Purple, Yellow, Pink, Blue, with the first red being the fuse bulb.

Thanks to DaniaI Thomas for identifying these lights for me. I bought these lights from a charity shop about three years ago. I spotted them on their Christmas tree in the shop window, I asked if I could buy them and they agreed. These lights appear to have the same holders and cable as the Glitter lights above. The difference with this set, apart from their shades is the colours used. Purple has been substituted for white.
Another point that interested me with the PIFCO lighting sets was the extra bit of flex you get after the last lamp holder. This is shown in the following picture.
PIFCO Cinderella Lights.
The first time I had ever seen a set of lights like these was back in the early eighties. My aunty Margaret and uncle Brian had a set on their tree, I found them fascinating. I won these in 2006 from EBAY. These are a 20 set of lights, ten carriages and ten lanterns. Again they are a 12.5 volt, 1.1W bulb, they are all white bulbs.
On opening the box up I noticed one of the bulbs and shades had been removed and a big red flasher unit had been installed. The flasher is shown below.
